Born in Newmarket in Q3-1885 [Newmarket 3b:511] to Walter and Hannah Elizabeth PRINCE (née MORTLOCK).
1891 census...Sidney [5] was at The Cottage, High Street, Stetchworth with his father Walter [34] a groom, born Clare; his mother Hannah [35] born Mildenhall, and brothers Walter C [10] born Newmarket and Arthur R [4 months] born Stetchworth, and sisters Annie [9] and Mabel [8] born Newmarket and Ethel [2] born Mereworth, Kent. 1901 census...Sidney [15] was now a groom. The whole family were still together, at Southfield Paddocks, Heath Road, Exning. 1911 census...Sidney was at the Royal Mews, London a groom in the employ of HM King George V. His parents and brother Arthur were still at Southfields Paddocks. "Soldiers Died" has his residence as Steventon, Berkshire on enlistment, and the family later moved to 16 King Edward Road, Newmarket. |

Sidney's battalion lost few men in the days preceding his death, but with none of his military records available it is not possible to identify any location for his wounding.
The 5th, 38th and 48th Casualty Clearing Stations came forward and used Bray Military Cemetery in 1917. In March 1918, the village and the cemetery
fell into German hands, but were retaken by the 40th Australian Battalion on 24 August,
